I had a '92 883 Sportster, nice bike, easy to ride, traded it in for an '05 Custom, to me the 883 was a better bike tooling around town, but on the expressways it seemed to be straining a bit. Now to the power thing, a friend of mine has a 883 to 1200 conversion kit installed, we both get on it and he leaves me standing there, pisses me off...

Default 883-1200

Well i have owned 3 sportys an 883r 1200L and my current 06 883c . The r was pre rubber mt and was my least favorite the L was a great running bike but the suspension was horrible the c i just bought is my favorite by far . The PO had a complete 1200 Se kit insatalled in it heads cams Se 10:1 pistons Se 44mm big bore cv carb race tuner ignition it runs awesome and i like the way it sits better too . Its definately faster than my previous 1200 but it has over 2g in the motor .

Funny, was just glancing through a different Harley forum, and the majority of the Sportster guys there feel that the 883 is a joke. Unless you drop the money on it to make it a 1200. I am still curious if doing the 1200 conversion anywhere other than a dealership will void warranties.

Who cares if they think it's a joke?

I don't, I just think it's funny, though, all the segregation that goes on with a lot of Harley owners. "If it ain't a Harley", "If it ain't a Big Twin", "If it ain't a 1200". Geez.

Again, funny you would say that. All these Nightster/Iron owners that are doing the same thing. They're all starting to look the same. And as soon as Harley starts doing the same (i.e. flipped mirrors) it suddenly becomes less cool. The custom world is about NOT doing what everyone else is doing. If everyone else is flipping their mirrors, flipping their headlights, putting on spring seats, and moving the speedo, do something totally different. I mean, I love the look of satin black on a bike, but my God, they're everywhere. I want to pull into a parking lot of bikes and have mine look different.
