I realize that this question may have been answered already, but I have not been able to find the answer. My wife has a 2006 XL883L and I was told by the dealer that you can not punch out the exhaust on this bike. It's carberated so I don't see why you cann't. If you can what is the easiest way to do it on your own, and so you need to rejet the carb's?
Yes, you can remove the baffles on a stock exhaust but you must use a 1" hole saw to remove them. You will only need a rejet if you swap out your air cleaner for a more free-flowing AC like the SE II, S&S, Arlen Ness, Hurricane, etc. Do a search on this site for the proper way to go about removing your baffles:

06 you are not taken baffles out that easy Please listen
i just whet thru this **** on mine sure you drill the back pipe out but not the front it has a cat in there will not come out you have to cut front cone off then weld back together not fun but saved 200.00
I picked up a set of stock mufflers off a 2004 883 (same as the 1200)on ebay for 25.00 and they do not have the cats in them. i plan on removing the baffles from them and keeping my originals just in case. it will say whether or not your mufflers have a cat on the side of the muffler. I think the 04's and maybe 05's are easier to remove the baffles because they don't have the cats in them. hope this helps.....
Thanks to all of you, you were a huge help. Lact night I took a 1" hole saw and cut a hole in the baffles. IT sound a little louder. I talked to my local HD dealer and he said that I could cut a hole in both the front and back baffle. I am going to keep me eyes open on ebay for 04 stock pipes.
Thumpre the XLforum.net website was also a huge help thank you.
I am hoping to get some pics of my wife's bike ad my bike on here today.

I guess I dont see the problem. I did this in on my 06 883c and yeah it took a little while but, it was not that bad. I guess if you are trying to take the cat out i can see that being a hassle but, why are you taking it out?
Once you drill out the baffles that is it!
Sounds to me like you made it harder than it needed to be.
I also have an 06 883L. I looked at knocking out the baffles, but then went with Cycle Shack Slip-on's. You can get them from JMcycles for $119 and free freight. I figured, if I ever have to go through any emmissions testing, I can now put on the stock pipes, go through the test, and put the cycle shacks back on afterwards. Oh, and the Cycle Shacks sound great!
