I just bought my bike and I guess Im not use to hearing alot of engine noise being I came off a CBR 600 f4i crotch rocket. My 883 has alot of engine noise at higher rpms but not redlining say at 70mph I here alot of clicking noises from the engine. Is this normal, should I worry? It is a 2006 883R. Any help would be great.
Sounds like it's running normally to me... Either that, or all of us Harley riders have a problem! The smoothness, quietness, and high-reving nature of the Asian 4's will never be witnessed on an HD product, it's a totally different animal!
I have the same worry. i used to own an r6, but now I have an 89 883/1200 converted sportster and it seems noisy like the rockers need to be adjusted and gets louder at higher rpm's. but when it's sitting it sounds like the bottom end. it runs fine otherwise.
Good choice on the R model Andy!... Rock that old flat tracker brutha! Don't worry about the chatter... The Sportster engine is one of the toughest around. You will be passing that thing on to your grand kids.
There are several of us that ride our bikes to work, two sportster, one shadow and two asian crotch rockets. They (the crotch rockets) were commenting that thier bikes are so smooth when ideling when mine is vibrating and noisey. What I explained to them that my doctor recommened the bike to me to help my prostrate. (not that I have a problem) The vibration is good for it. they just stood there in awe and did not know what to say

But to the original question, the upper engine of the Sporties kinda sounds like an antique sewing machine. I'd say it's PERFECT!!! Ride and enjoy.
