Default Stage 1 S/E Air Cleaner

I just read an article in American Iron (April 20101 issue...page 120) on installing the S/E Air cleaner. They stated the ECM didn't need calibration because the O2 sensors will calibrate the ECM within a few minutes...is this true?

Yes but only if you replace the a/c (stock pipes ).

I read that article too, and wonder if they changed the the mufflers from stock or not. If they did not change them from the stock ones it makes sense that no new tune would be needed because the pipes would still be clogging up the system making the a/c flow just like the stock set up.

They are doing a 4 part build up. Part one was a complete exhaust from v.h. part two was the addition of the a/c. Yes it did state no calibration is needed, for the two mods. Look at the h.p. numbers, rather low if you ask me. I achieved 59.87 h.p with slip ons, a/c and a sert. They had a baseline of 40 h.p. I think they got 6/7 h.p. just from the a/c.

So what they are saying is that with v&h shortshots or whatever and s/e stage 1 I won't need a tune but the hp numbers will prob be lower??

They said you do not have to do a tune. I feel like the numbers suffer because of this. I have rinehart s/ons and a se ac. And sert. I have more HP. You would think with a whole exhaust you would have more HP.

Maybe v&h went more for looks than performance and the lack of backpressure is hurting hp??
