Hi all,
First of thanks for a great site. I have a question that I have not been able to answer on the forum as of yet. Perhaps I am not looking deep enough for the answer. I have a 2007 nightster and just about to change out the fluids to synthetic. I have decided to go with Mobil 1 20W50 and 75/90 in the gearcase. My question is do I have to flush out the old dino stuff and if so what do I use. It seems to me that the right way to do it is to pour in some new synthetic and run the bike for lets say 25 miles or so and drain and refil with fresh. At the price of Mobil 1 that is a expensive proposition. So what do you all say.
I haven't switched over to synthetic yet but am planning on it soon.
I've been told, by more than one shop guy, that all you need to do is drain your dino oil when the engine is warm (oil is thinner) and replace it with synthetic.
Like you, I still wonder about whatever residual dino oil that might not drain out.
I'll be watchin' this thread for advice...
Should be fine just draining. I work part time at a fast lube and it is a myth that mixing the syn and conventional oils will cause engine damage. Also if you ever decide to go back to conventional, just do it...not gonna hurt a thing. Especially in the fact that the amount left over will be pretty small.
