Would like to install a mini tach kit on my bike. Anybody out there install one of these? How hard of a job is this? It's an expensive upgrade and I'd hate to have to give the dealer additional money to install it. Thanks.
Thought I'd bring this back to the top. Doesn't anybody have a tach kit out there? They look pretty awesome and are functional too. Hate the price though....
I put one on my 2006 1200C. It is a very easy install. I removed the gas tank to position a small electronic box (part of the kit) out of sight. I am not sure that this is necessary but it made me feel good. Other than that, it is just fishing wires and making two wire splices back around the battery and snaping in two (I think, maybe only one) wire connectors.
I love the tach. Don't know why it is not standard. Maybe it is just my preference.
i put one on an 05 sportster. its pretty straight forward. there is some instructions that come with the tach. follow them carefully and you will be fine.
I use my rev limiter as my tach if I feel like hot rodding a little.Once you get used to where it kicks in you don't sound stupid with your engine breaking up.That's embarrassing when you have a brand new bike and it breaks up on you.Sounds like a pile of crap when you hit the rev limiter.I guess my ears are my tach but sometimes I'm curious just how fast it's turning. How much was your tach?
Didnt buy the tach kit yet, but it's going to run about $300 for the tach, housing and other accesories. If the stealer installs it, Im looking at another $90 or so.
There are mini tachs on ebay for around 40$ they say they re for all harley's with single fire igniton. But I cannot get a straight answer if my 05' sportster custom is a single fire, I even went to my harley dealer and went back in the garage to talk to the mechanics, and they even said they weren't sure, After that I don't think they'll be touching my bike!
