I called ACC/HeadTrip to see what this is about (I have 2 of their helmets) and was told that the recall is a result of 2 different labs disputing penetration test results. I was also told that people that want to return the helmets can but many have decided to keep the helmets as there is nothing wrong with the helmet and they still meet DOT standards. I decided I'm keeping mine.
I didn't get into the details when I called them because they pretty much told me straight up that it needed to be returned. I'm pretty disappointed. After over 12k miles with mine, I love the low weight, but wasn't very fond of their strap system, too thick and not very bendable.
ACC is paying for me to ship the helmet back and will give me a full refund for the original purchase price (hopefully).
Then I called Daytona Helmets. They make a Polo carbon fiber for about $15 less than the ACC version. The salesperson knew a lot about the helmet, and it sounds like it may be better quality plus the strap system sounds much nicer. Anyway, I'll have 30 days to see if I like it. There's no re-stocking fee and all I do is pay to return it.

I tried the Daytona and actually thought it was a piece of sh&*. The straps were inferior to ACC and the carbon fiber was bumpy as you ran your hand accross the shell. I sent it back and had to negotiate a 15% restocking fee instead of the 30% they advertize. Wish I had seen your deal before I negotiated.
