The oil leaking thing... I've had my '05 1200 for over a year now and never had that problem.
But... I changed the throttle cables and had to take the backing plate off so I could get the carb off and in the process I had to take the studs that hold it in place which also act as the vent for the crankcase. There is two "O" rings that seal the vent tubes that go into the carb venturi on these studs... might check them... also you might check that they put some pipe dope on the threads of these studs that screw into the jugs.
my 06 1200C just started leaking oil from the air filter after coming back from the 1000 mile service. my pipes and the entire right side of my bike were covered in oil spots from oil dripping. WTF man. Im planning on taking it back to the dealer today and have them take care of the problem. am i going to need a new air filter considering this one is probably covered in oil?

Post the results when you come back from the dealer.

you got it... i called the service department this morning and they are taking my bike in at 5... ill post once i get out of there.
the dealership(whites harley) was actually very helpful, compared to what i have heard in the past. anyway, they removed the case and the oil filter only to say that the engine breaths into the filter and from time to time will spit oil into the filter itself. this happens when the bike has been running for quite awhile and when its already hot outside. the reason the oil was leaking from the a/c was due to the fact that oil had already begun to fill the cleaner itself. the mechanic was nice enough to give me a clean filter(free off of a bike they just did a stage 1 upgrade to) and told me that this will happen every so often. the best thing to do is pull the case off of the filter wipe down the inside of the a/c and take an air compressor and blow the oil out of the filter. do not blow the sh*t out of the filter or you could damage it. it's a common problem among sportys that will just require a lot of extra attention to the chrome when you're cleaning up your bike.
The only 2 time's I have ever had oil in my a/c on my 05 was after a few carb farts. this was cured by warming up before take off. Every now and then when ridden hard and shut down shortly there after it will spit back into carb on shutdown.. Never has been to the degree of enough oil dripping out of filter or housing.
I have 8000 miles on my 2005 1200R. Never had any oil leakage from the air cleaner. Have the original element in there and just had it all apart last week because one of the throttle cables came off the carb when I was changing grips. Air cleaner was a little dirty, but totally dry.
I had posted a while ago that I had oil dripping from my air cleaner and when taking the bike in to the dealer where I was staying for the weekend theytold me the bolts had loosened on the air cleaner thus the drip. They charged me $65.00 bucks for a new filter and labor, the bike hadn't even had the 1000 mile check yet. Now I dropped the bike off last nite foe the first check and oil change, I had gone over a 1000 but the tech told me when I called to make an appt this would be ok. They were so backed up and booked up that the appt was a month from the date that I called. He assured me it would be ok to ride my bike, and hell it's summer, it's new, and I wasn't going to let it sit and look at it for a month while I waited. Now hearing this nightmare I'm scared to get it back today and head out for the weekend on a camping trip with just the bikes, fortunately there are 3 dealers on my way down to Maryland so if I have a problem help is close by. I am curious to see if they change the filter again and re-charge me. The dealer who put it in said they shouldn't that it would be part of the service they would be doing for the 1000 miles . I guess we'll see tonite.
