I have one of those special colors, REAL TEAL and birch white. I want a new tank, the Stealership had me waitng for 45 minutes, I jsut walked out...seems that selling t-shirts and coffe mugs are more important.
I am still waiting for my new tank, the first time it came in it was th e wrong color, but it cost me 475 after a 15 percent discount, reg price was 550 I think. I could of got one off of ebay and painted it for all the time I have been waiting for this damn tank.
A friend of mine has a '01 Heritage Softail. His bike got a nice sized 'ding' in the gas tank. He called HD and found out the tank was one piece, and would cost $600 to replace.
I had some of those 'bullet hole' stickers and covered the ding with one of those till he could replace the tank.
We put another sticker on the front fender, one on the rear..... and it looked like he'd just put some stickers on his bike.
That was 4 years ago... He still hasn't replaced the tank!
My tank fell off my bike when I had the bolts off (yes I know I am stupid) and a new tank would have been $675. Since I have an Anniversary bike I would have had to send my damaged tank in as well because they don't want clones. There also would have been 6-8 week wait. Well I went to a local body shop and they fixed the ding and repainted it ordering genuine HD paint for $412. I am amazed at how well it turned out. Plus they had it done in 5 days.
