Default Need help. . .

I am a new rider, last July. . . bought my first street bike, a 97 883 Sportster. Now that I have had the bike awhile, there are some things I want to do to the bike. I need to take off the tanks and fenders to have them repainted. So I am buying new used parts to send off to my brother, so I can keep riding. I keep looking at fuel tanks on ebay. The newer sporty's 2007's, will they fit on the 97? They look similar.

I have a 3.3 and would like to keep the same, though upgrading to a larger tank is appealing. . .

I am also lowering the back end, putting a single seat, getting a shorter windshield. I am also thinking of bumping the engine up. I want to do the work myself. . . So, I will be back for more tips! Thanks for your input.

I can not help much but I can tell you that the newer tanks have the fuel pump inside the tank so i would not think it would fit your 97.

Check out Lick's Cycles for some of the parts you'll need to lower your scoot. Ebay and Craigslist are probably the best place for tins. Engine work...got a local independent shop other riders use?

Gas tanks up to 03 will work and I believe rear fenders only fit up to 99, they changed the tail light in 2000 you should look in a V-Twin catalog or Jireh catalog, you can buy new parts for fairly reasonable prices in both, if you keep watching EBAY you will find what you are looking for but this time of the year people tend to run things up to more than they are worth especially if you have to pay someone else to completely redo them.
