Default Octane?

Have had a road king for awhile, just bought my son an XL1200C, 2009. The manual says to run 91 octane, but all the gas stations I have been to only have 87, 89, and 93. Which one can I use? The bike is stock, no aftermarket at all.

93...I would use at LEAST the minimum the manual recommends.

It's 91 octane or higher for all 1200s.

I never use less them 92 in my bikes and almost always use 93. If the book calls for 91 or higher then use it. Most cars these days are fine on 87 and it's pointless to use higher, but bikes are a differant story.

I run 91 or better in my 883 .If I have to go lower I try to run it out as soon as possible. I can tell the differance in mpg from 89 to 91 or better. Also if you have a Casey,s in your area avoid them at all cost everytime I am forced to use their gas mpg drops even more.

For a 1200, go with the 93 octane, if 91 isn't available

Thanks folks, as always quick answers through this forum. I appreciate you guys. My son is just 16, and has been "dreaming and looking". He is on his way back from mission work in Africa, and I pick him up at 9:20 tonight. Do you think he might be surprised? Hope to get a picture of the look on his face. Will post later. Thanks again.
