Default Question about saddlebags. Please help!

I have a 09 1200C and need to get some saddlebags for longer trips. I don't want saddlebags that will be on the bike the whole time, so I found these Kuryakyn GranThrow-Over bags for sale all over the internet. They look perfect for what I need them to do, but I was curious if anyone on here has them or has at least tried them on their sportster? If anyone has pictures that would be really appreciated. Any other suggestions would be appreciated! Ps, I don't want to relocate turn signals and ride with my girlfriend, so I would need the foot pegs to still be accessible. Thanks

Don't know about the ones you are talking about. But the ones below are from hotleathers, $100 and three years of use. All I have done is put some lexan on the back to protect them from rubbing on shocks.

So by chance do you know the style that you got? I'm looking at Hotleather's website, and I'm not sure which styles would fit. I have a 06 883C. Also, did you put the mounting brackets on? Sorry to highjack the post...

They are the medium ones. They hold a fair amount of stuff, especially if just daily needs. Me and the wife took a four day trip with some friends and the saddlebags and a sissybar bag held all we needed. They are fairly wide and rigid so you can pack them tight. They don't look very deep/tall in the pic, but if you can imagine a bike with full length exhaust you can see they can't really be any taller. They are also slanted on top in the rear so they clear signals without having to relocate them. I didn't use brackets because I slide the bags under the seat only when needed. So I glued lexan on the back side to prevent the shocks from damaging the bags. They also have two tie down straps per a bag and clear passenger pegs and buttocks just fine.

Flatlander, thanks for that detailed info! Still curious to see if anyone has tried these kuryakyn bags but if nit, sounds like your bags will be the way to go for me.

I have a 1200L, and have the Hard HD Saddle Bags. These bags are bolted through the rear fender and goes through the upper frame mount, with 2 bolts for each side. With that, there's no room to get a wrench on the bolt head due to the tire. My question with that is, do I deflate the rear tire to gain access to the bolts if I wanted to remove them? Also I can't get my shock adjusting wrench in their due to the saddle bags being in the way. Thoughts?

Racer99, I also have 1200L. If you take the seat off, you move the ECM and pop it's mount out of the rear fender which gives you easy access under the rear fender and I believe to the bolts you need to get to to remove your saddlebags.

Thanks KsSporty...I was hopeful not have to do that...gosh all this just to adjust my shock tension, due to the bags being in the way..

BTW, mine is a 2007, and looking to get rid of those stock handlebars. Looking at 12" APES. Have you done any handle bar mods yet? I'm don't know which cable length i need?

No I haven't done any handlebar mods yet. I've only changed the controls from mid to forward, put sundowner seat on and added sissy bar with rigid plates for when the daughter/wife rides with. I am thinking about putting on a set of risers with a slight pullback on. I'm also curious as to whether I'll have to lengthen the lines. Guess I'll find out lol.
