Hi everyone,
I have installed the V&H Straight Shots on my Nightster. After a couple of miles with them I think I need a pair of quiet baffles. It´s very loud (100db). I haven´t any instructions on how to install them so now to my question: Do I have to pick apart the exhaust again or is there an easier way?
I had a pair on my 04 Softail and all I had to do was screw the side screw out near the rear on the the outside of the pipe facing inward toward wheel. After removing it the baffle slid out and the supposedly quite one slid in and I replace the screw will a ss steel one since original was rusted. However the quite ones were still way too loud for my choice since my desire is to always be a good neighbor and I come home after work at 12:30AM. Picked up a complete brand new night train exhaust system for $40.00 on e-bay. Later the person said it cost him $55 to ship it. All I had to do was plug the oxygen sensors. Still plenty loud.
I had a Roadstar with V&H long shots. The LEO in Virginia gave me a citation $96 for my efforts. This led me to buy the quite shot baffels. They are very easy to install. Just remove the screw at the back side of the exhaust exit pull out the old na in with the new. This did not make them much quieter, but did give them a nice low pitched sound.
I have the Straightshots on my 09 883L. I had to remove the heat shields, remove the allen screw holding the baffle in, remove the old baffle, slide in the new baffle, re-install the allen screw and re-install the heat shields. I would recommend adding a piece of tape around the front edge (edge that goes into the pipe first) of the baffle to keep the baffle material from bunching up as the baffle is inserted. The quiet baffles can be very difficult to remove, but the standard baffles are easy to remove.

I had the Stage 1 download done when I first installed the pipes and SE A/C. I did not change anything when switching back and forth between baffles. I like both the standard and quiet baffles. I think the bike has a little more torque and gets a little better MPG with the quiet baffles, but I prefer the volume of the standard baffles.
