Used to live in the new river valley, and while most laws are ridiculous in VA, gun laws are AWESOME!!! The Peoples Republic of CA however is a police state.

Maybe the lights where you live aren't the inductive loop triggered lights and just turn after a certain time. I rarely run into this problem where I live but when I drive out to a different city, there's a lot of new development and I guess they put in the vehicle detection system to make traffic more efficient.

Minor annoyance but totally worth it since I love riding!

Here's what I told the students in the MSF course--first, put the bike in neutral and get off of it and go press the crosswalk signal and return to the bike; if that doesn't work, bounce up and down on the bike really hard until your weight triggers the light....

I still have never seen a student do that??

Seriously, when I pull up to a light in a situation like this I edge up enough for the car behind me to pull up close enough to trigger the light. I'll actually wave the car up behind me if the sensor isn't triggering the light change. I think most drivers are very understanding and want to get on their way as well.

Nope. They are not timed, you have to approach and trigger the light for it to change.

Did you not ever see the "square" cut into the pavement at a red light? What the heck did you think that was??? It's not a "scale" like you traditionally would think. That square actually "tilts" when the correct amount of weight lands on it. The tilting then triggers wires and coils in the ground and sets the light to change. Hello??

It's the presence of a lot of iron that sets those magnetometers off. My sportbikes which are full of plastic (420 pounds) won't set most off but as soon as I pull up on my Heritage (720 pounds), it turns.

You should be able to see a square or octagonal cutout in the road close to the crosswalk. That's where the sensor is buried. Ride over the top of it and put your sidekick on it and sit on the bike.

The square is the inductive loop.
Doing a google on it, there seems to be NO weight triggered systems.

There are inductive loops, and infared.

They also sell trigger systems that will make the light turn green when you pull up, not sure if that is legal tho....

I used to have that problem till I started pulling up in the grease strip. Seems to catcg the trigger better that way.
