it sounds like you need to invest in some tools and a jack. Do all the work yourself.

Yes, changing the fork springs is more involved than the shocks, but it's still a pretty simple process.

I live between Rocky Mount and Collinsville right off 220. I'd be happy to help you put the shocks on. I don't have a lift yet (as noted, you don't really need one) but I do have a ton of tools and consider myself to be mechanically competent. Let me know.

BTW, Harbor freight has motorcycle lifts for pretty cheap. It would be a good investment for your ride. Also, if a buddy needs to use it, they should offer liquid refreshment in return. Just a thought ;-)

I would be willing to bet that if you had bought those RK shocks off the dealer, they would have installed them for you.

your dealer is an idiot..this is the best mod i did on my sporty.mine were of an 08 electra glide and i used 1" lowering blocks from tamarack..why did you take it to a dealer to do it ..its an easy afternoon job at best mine took about an hour to do..no lift needed if you do one side at a time.the dealer told me the 4 piston v-rod brembo brakes wouldnt fit on my sporty and guess what it bolted right up all i had to do is change my master cylinder it the next size up..anyway heres a pic of my rk shocks on my nightster its still sitting at stock height after the install

I really didn't want to start buying tools but I may have to rethink that thought. I have been uncluttering my life recently and am just getting use to that. I did notice the HF had the lift on sale for $80. The only other thing I would need is a torx socket set and a rachet handle and some locktite. I am guessing that the lift would pay for itself almost on just this change over?

INSWVA You may end up getting a PM yet let me give this a little more thought first. Thanks for the offer.

I was uncluttering my life too when I bought the Iron, trading down from my very custom Streetglide and Fatbob. I still needed some comfort though. Did the Streetglide 12 inch shocks and yes, it's the best mod you can do. Instead of buying a big clumsy bike jack why not try a simple product like the Centerstand bike lift. I have used it on every HD family... Vrod, Softail, touring, sporty and Dyna. It's just a leverage bar that goes under the bike. Pull the big handle over and the bike is lifted up at the front or back wheel depending on the placement of the bar. I made it easier by purchasing the Harbor Freight wheel stand for $39 to get the bike fully upright before putting the lift under it. The wheelstand also makes it easy to detail the bike as it isn't leaned way over on it's sidestand. BTW, you will need (8) 1/2 inch washers. They should be SAE washers, which are not as large outside diameter as the standard 1/2 inch washers, but have the same 1/2 inch size hole. Two washers go on the outside of each shock eyelet.
