Read the above posts. All Sportsters have the same frame, regardless of engine size. After that it is primarily cosmetics that make the difference. The Lows and Nightster/Irons have lower suspensions. The "Customs" have bigger tanks and more chrome.

But they are ALL fundamentally the same motorcycle.

I suppose my question got answered before I even posted it.
My souces on the 1200 - 883 frame are two guys, one of which owns a night train and previously owned a nightster.

whatever.

This is why we have motorcycle magazines. Plus there is a thread on the history of the Sportster.

But you could have read all of this on these forums before asking. Use the info already given. The best thing to do is research, then if you can't find the answer, ask.

All of this Nightster/Sportster stuff has been hashed out way too many times.

Don't worry about it, I didn't know f all about Harleys when I only had 6 posts on here either.
Just keep posting and learning and ignore the grumpy remarks.
Keep in mind if your going to want two up on a model built for one you will need to add rear passenger pegs as well as a two up seat or passenger pillion.

Yeah don't let these guys shake you. They are alright, but we are alittle quick with noobs. Most people here have been riding a long time. I have a Nightser and have no problem riding two-up (with a passenger). You have to add passenger pegs and a two person seat. Your looking at $300 or less depeneding on where you buy them. All Sportsters can be a lot of fun but, I would probably go with a 1200 if you plan on having passengers.

Just don't go asking if the oil for one is ok to use in the other!

At some point everyone is where you are, as HOTLAP & SauerKraut said don't let it bother you. I don't post much but have been riding for over 40 years, still ask questions and continue to learn as well as share.

Decide on the look you like, then you can start making changes to the shocks, seats, forks, etc, etc. to get you where you want to be.

Most importantly if you haven't already, take an MSF class. Decide what bike suits you (not me, you buddies or anyone else), have fun & ride safe.
