Yes, I agree that you HAVE to know if the battery is good to begin with. Then, after you are POSITIVE that the battery is not the problem, spend the time to check all of the cables that connect to the battery and to the starter motor and the ground wire to the bike. I had a wire that came loose INSIDE of the connector that attached to the starter motor. You couldnt see it at all. It LOOKED like a perfectly good wire and the bike was new, only about 6 months old from off of the dealers floor too! I couldnt believe it when I finally found it. I could have re-crimped the connection back on to the wire, but I opted to replace that wire with a new one from the Pep Boys for about a few dollars. No problems, since that wire was replaced! You can get a battery from the dealer or from another motorcycle shop (Like a sport bike dealer [HONDA]) or from Sears (A Diehard) or your local Independent motorcycle shop. Hey sorensentyler, good luck with your electric issue and ride safe out there!
If you do have to replace the battery out of your pocket, O'Reilly carries East Penn batteries. East Penn is who makes the batteries for Harley. So, same battery without the Harley sticker.
After reading it, you said the lights went dim and you got one click out of it, then nothing. I would say charge the battery and the move foward from there.
charged my battery and it still didn't work! really starting to get under my skin so i decided to sleep on it. LITERALLY. woke up got a new battery from my local shop, slapped that baby in there and fired right up. thanks for all the input guys!
i would still check those relays. if the system relay is corroded it will make your bike keep cycling even when its off. ( i forgot what the part that does this is but is makes a small whirring sound every 30 seconds or so). this will kill your battery. so your new battery may go dead too. you should be able to hear this noise. it is very faint but hearable.
went to get on the bike the day after i replaced the battery. DEAD. had nothing again... so i trucked the bike up to the harley shop in jamestown, new york.
got the news today. it was the fuse block. relays all that crap. cost 33.60 not to bad
