Considering a windshield
Well i went ahead and blew the money on a HD quick release compact windshield. Off or on in under 30 seconds is nice. I'm just a tad over 6 feet tall and the windshield is 18 inches tall. It really doesn't interfere with my vision at all. There is a slight amount of buffeting which im sure after riding awhile i won't even notice. The wind stream seems to barely hit the top of my helmet. I had it a little low on the tree and raised it just about 1/4 inch. I'll give it a run tomorrow sometime. It took all the wind blast off my chest *and im a big wide body* which is nice. So far so good.
You bought the one I have. You'll enjoy it. Mine was installed at the time I took delivery. A few weeks ago I took it off because I wanted to 'feel the wind'. I quickly put it back on because I noticed quicker fatigue in my hands and shoulders from holding on.
I've got the one you bought as well.
I've ridden my Iron back and forth between my home and Omaha several times (3.5hrs) and the time I went without it was much less comfortable. I almost never put it on for short rides but I'm glad I have it for long trips on the interstate.

I run the flyscreen on my roadster...
Still get hit by bugs, blocks most of the small ones.
Can hold my hand flat at gas tank and raise it up it does not get pulled by the wind until it reaches my forehead.
Get the best of both worlds...still feel the wind, bugs, gravel, and rain but I don't have to hold on with a death grip at 75 miles hour.
Crossing Nebraska is a bitch I don't care if you have a windsheild or not, open fields and alot of wind.
Good luck on your choice...

I have the HD quick detach shield for my bike. I absolutely hate using it because of the helmet buffeting it causes. If it's cold or I'm planning a very long highway run, I'll put it on. Otherwise, it stays in the garage. I don't mind getting wet so I don't bother putting it on when I know I'll have to ride in the rain unless it's also going to be cold. The aesthetics are the least of my concerns.
I have a windshield on my bike for the very reasons you mentioned. I sit up straight because my back can't take leaning over. Any speed over 50 and I have to hang on with out the shield. Over 65 and I am hanging on for dear life.I never take it off. It is the best thing I have ever done for my riding comfort.
