Default Considering a windshield

I for one don't want to look through a windshield while riding my Sporty. I wear a FF helmet when i ride. I'm after a solution that will lessen the chest wind on a windy day so that i don't have to hang on for dear life on those days . Do any of the small shields or 1/4 fairings work. I've seen the flyscreen and HD fairings. I think fairings look like crap on Sportsters. Again i'm not after blocking the wind completely just some relief at 60+ mph on windy days is all. The wind on my helmet has never bothered me. My leather riding jacket on the other hand is like a drag chute lol .. Suggestions/Experiences?

Try to test before buying - my buddy bought one for his Dyna and his head bobs around at speed - it is adjustable and he has tried every position possible - no luck - it is now stored in his garage - big waist of money.

Noooooooo...don't put a windshield on a Roadster!!!!!!
Put drag bars on, you body will be leaning into the wind and it won't bother you near as much.

I have the quick release from HD. While it looks like crap, it works very well. It's like riding a different bike. I don't use it as much as I would like simply because of the looks. If you can get past that, I would highly recommend it.

Everyone likes different things...this is mine and I love it.

I wouldn't be without mine, did two 600 mile days and not having to "hang on" was awesome.

I put an HD quick release on my bike and only take it off to clean the bike. No debris, rocks, sand or insects anymore. Riding at speed is comfortable too. However, I rarely do over 75. As for looks: I don't care.

+1 on this. I have a compact quick release on my N, or I should say I occasionally put it on. If I'm going to be on the freeway, riding the coast, or just really windy, I use it. It is a different bike and infinitely more enjoyable experience. I hate the looks, but feeling like you're gonna be blown off a cliff is not a fun ride. Actually the looks grow on you once you experience what it does for you.

When your w/s is adjusted properly you do not look through, but over it. I am rarely aware of its' presence. My Super Glide is just a big Sporty, really, and I wouldn't make any trip w/o my w/s, which is a Q/R Harley that I bought on eBay. Takes 5 seconds to remove/install, takes ALL the wind pressure off your torso, and keeps virtually ALL the bugs and kicked-up road debris off you & your helmet. Also provides extra space to store stuff, like a fleece pullover. It is WAY better in the rain and is an essential option when doing any travelling at speed. Next to the rubber Kury throttle rest, best money I've spent on accessory.

I can't comment on how you feel on the road but I love my bike since I took the windshield off. I changed my 1200C to 1" risers and 16" narrow glide apes. I have ridden 400 miles in a day so far without problems. I feel like I am part of the machine now. I dont feel the wind beating my chest like some say. Yeah if my helmet is too loose the wind peels it back, and sand and bugs sting a little but i love the feel of the wind, even at 75-80 on the interstate. To each his own I guess. My HD quick release is for sale if you want it.

Thanks for the replies. I've just read alot about wasted money on shields. People spend 3-400 on them and they cant get rid of buffeting at speed. Some have 3 windshields and none of them work for their bikes as in adjustments. I may just give up the green and buy a HD quick detach one day. I love the feel of the wind when i drive until it takes all that i have to hold on lol.
