Default HD Quick Detach Windshield

I purchased the HD quick detach windshield for my '07 Lowrider. It is the standard height lightly smoked p/n 58347-06. The assembley was just to attach the clamps to the windshield frame, took me about 15 minutes. On/off the bike in 10-15 seconds. Using a 3/4 helmet I found the buffeting to be minimal and nothing at all to worry about. I mounted the shield as low down on the stems as possible. It is 10x nicer on the highway, went up to 75mph, great.

I was debating getting it based on all the posts about the "terrible" buffeting, I'd need special flap vests, or lowers, or all kinds of crap. Bull. I do have a fork-bag that's always been on there, not sure if that makes any difference, I doubt it.

The reason for my post is for those who have been wanting on but have beeb put off by the negative buffeting posts. Maybe it's worse with 1/4 helmets (skullcaps) that (IMO) are not the smartest idea anyway, nevermind on the highway.

On suggestion, save the box. Nice to drop it in there for protection when you just are tooling around town.

I agree on all counts. I had never had one before and put it off because of all the negativity on the boards. My experience has been positive. Is it perfect? No! Is it better on the Hwy than riding without it, you bet. I don't feel worn out from the beating the wind give you at Hwy/Interstate speeds. No stress on my body.

I agree as well, I use my windshield with a full face, and 1/2 helmet and have never had the problem that I have seen posted.

Well I'm glad you like it, but the buffeting is real. I have the same WS on an 07 lowrider and the buffetting really sucks! I do the Jack's Flaps test, putting my left are across my chest and all buffeting stops and its quiet and calm behind the WS. I can then hear the exhaust and engine noises, otherwise all I hear is wind blasting my ears.

I have been debating on getting one for my 07 WG.
I keep telling myself I will get used to the wind which I admit is part of the experience and I haven't even taken a long ride yet.
On the highway it seems like I have a death grip.

I appreciate your sharing this with us.

I have the same windshield and keep it off most of the time because of the buffeting. However, at highway/interstate speeds, there's no comparison. Anytime I going anywhere that requires high speed riding or long riding where arm fatigue may be a factor, I put it on. I never realized how hard I was holding on to the bars until I road with a windshield. It's so much more relaxing. But, I agree, the buffeting is real and it is a pain but worth the trade off in some situations.

I purchased the HD quick detach windshield for my '07 Lowrider. It was a piece of junk the air buffetting really sucks off my bike. Now if I was short as sh*t. it might work. But I am 5'-10" the shields are not made for me. I found a shield from a yard sale that was wider and a little bit taller. That dose work better on the lowrider. I was at the dealer doing the demo rides this weekend. They have shields that are large for the super glides.

Honestly, theres so many factors to getting the right shield for the right person. Changing seats can make a difference, dropping the rear can make a difference, posture, forward versus mid controls, crash gaurds, etc. Some people have gone throught 7 or 8 shields before finding one or giving up. When I'm on my scoot smoking a cigon the highway, I flick my ash right in front of my chest and the ash goes foward over my windshield. I just thought that was cool so I put it in here.

HD windshield model #58346-06 on my FDX, over60 mph I get beat up with the buffeting.
Tried the left arm on the chest thing, and yes, the wind is coming from below.
Took it off, easier riding without it at higher speeds.
Glad to see it works for some of you guys.
