Ihave the standard HD shield on an 07 SG and at speed it buffets like crazy. I dont like riding without a windshield and was very disappointed with the whole setup. I bought the Memphis shades lowers and they solve the updraft issue for the most part.
Funny how this affects some of us and not others. Not sure what's common among the ones that have no trouble. Maybe ken01976 hit it right: so many diffent factors that play into whether it works. I like my short, quick detachable, but only when it's not windy. I know, I'm riding and there is wind blast - not that, I mean wind as in 10mph or greater when you are standing there. If it's windy, having it on sucks because I get yanked all over the place. Maybe I'll try a tool bag on the forks and maybe raising the mounts a bit - that's cheaper than trying a bunch of shields!
Anyone know a cheap ($) alternative to buying the entire mounting kit ($70) just because the grommets are bad?
Thanks for the additional feedback on windsheilds.............. I still haven't purchased one, mostly because of the bad feed on this topic. I think the windsheild would be very benificial in the colder temps.
With my previous bike, I ordered a short windshield, and experienced buffeting. It was somewhat adjustable, so I raised it up 3". ThenI replaced it with a tall windshield, then adjusted that up and down. I changed the angle. Always buffeting. Then I changed helmets for an unrelated reason and NO BUFFETING!!! At least with my case, it was the aerodynamics of the helmet causing the problem, not the windshield.
I may be one only one, but it's worth thnking about.
Rode 1,200 miles with mine for the first time I've ever used one. Not a single problem. Trieda 150 mile jauntthis weekend without it and felt like I had been beaten up across the chest & shoulders with a 2x4. It's going back on to stay. By the time I get finished with the luggage additions, it's going to look like a Low-Bagger anyway. Comfort first at my age.
I purchased the HD quick detach windshield for my '07 Lowrider. It is the standard height lightly smoked p/n 58347-06. The assembley was just to attach the clamps to the windshield frame, took me about 15 minutes. On/off the bike in 10-15 seconds. Using a 3/4 helmet I found the buffeting to be minimal and nothing at all to worry about. I mounted the shield as low down on the stems as possible. It is 10x nicer on the highway, went up to 75mph, great.
I was debating getting it based on all the posts about the "terrible" buffeting, I'd need special flap vests, or lowers, or all kinds of crap. Bull. I do have a fork-bag that's always been on there, not sure if that makes any difference, I doubt it.
The reason for my post is for those who have been wanting on but have beeb put off by the negative buffeting posts. Maybe it's worse with 1/4 helmets (skullcaps) that (IMO) are not the smartest idea anyway, nevermind on the highway.
On suggestion, save the box. Nice to drop it in there for protection when you just are tooling around town.

Glad the WS worked for ya dynamite. Got any picks of the bike with it on? I am going to puchase a shield but still looking for the right one.
Thanks
