I am a newbie to this field, I was just looking at some sites for possibily new wheels, I don't like the new ones being offered at J&p, dennis kirk and others. I am interest in non chrome 13 spoke wheels as an example, or older XL wheels from the past, problem is I got an 08 Nightster, and many of these wheels I believe won't fit. I was wondering if there may be kits to convert to newer bikes, I know there has been different bearing sizes from 3/4" to 1" to 25 mm. If looing at other HD models, the pulley is on the left side instead of the right side. and other differences. It seems like I am limited to 07 and later sportster wheels, now is there a problem with th 10-11 sportster wheels? something seems different. I tend to believe that the axle where the nut goes on is the same diameter as older models, just bearing size differs. I was looking at a rear wheel on ebay for an 08 883xl sportster, owner listed only 883 models compat. are the 883's differ from the 1200's and nightster? sorry about all this, I am kind of confused here.. below is a list from a bearing ad, that has models I think I can choose from.

Yup your bike has 25mm axles. So if you get a wheel that has 1" or 3/4" you will need to either visit a bearing shop or have the wheel's hub machined to take the larger bearing.

I am putting a '03 softail rear wheel on my '06 1200c. '06 has 1" axles, '03 wheel is 3/4 bearing.. So I found a '04 rear axle, only year of the a 3/4 axle was used on a rubber mount, '05-'07 is 1" and '08 and up is 25mm. And its going together nicely. I will make a posting with my picts on the forum in a few min as the picts are uploading now to photobucket.
