My 06 Sportster is acting weird. My speedometer lighting stays on after I turn the key off and it stays on until i hit the brakes. I dont remember it doing this. IS it supposed to? if not all help appreciated.
That light should go off when the key is turned off. Sounds like a short or a poor ground to me. Start with the battery and check all connections and then go from there. If it were me I would take it to a dealer or a good Indy. Electrical troubleshooting can get tricky without the right instruments.
Well I now realized that my ignition switch is bad cause I can pull the key out on accessory, but the hd shop can't recognize my vin number
Uhhhh, that's the way it was designed, and there's nothing wrong with your switch just because you can pull the key out while it's in accessory. Yes, everyone go try your key....It will come out in the accessory position.
I was just going to ask if you're turning your key all the way off when the light stays on or if you're only turning it to accessory and pulling the key.

I was turning the key all the way back and u can tell there is something messed up in the ignition and I ordered a new switch. By the way there was two other sportster at my local mechanics shop and neither of them could pull the key out in accessory. So now I got a week and 1/2 wait til my new ignition gets here.
Maybe it depends on model year idk? But mine has these problems and then sometimes I go out and ride it and its doesnt stay on so the switch has got some sort of short in it. I was surprised that the switch was only $70. Does anyone know where the three wires plug in at?
