Default Dynojet?

I have considered replacing the stock carburator jets with
a Dynojet kit. Are there any special things to take into
consideration or will it be just "plug and play"?
I have a -98 XL 1200S.
To my knowledge, this should work
although I have the stock exhaust pipes and
air box... Or?

Can someone please give their opinion, is it
worth the money?

IMHO the Dynajet Kit is NOT worth the money, nor needed - ever. First, why you you rejet without changing your AC to one that is more free-flowing and the same for your pipes and/or mufflers? A rejet of any kind is not likely to do anything for you without making the AC and pipe change at the same time. The whole idea of the rejet is to provide more fuel when the intake and exhaust have been opened up to get rid of the factory lean running condition and allow the engine to breathe better.

Just my $0.02...

Hi flow AC, slip ons, 45 slow jet, 180 main jet, stock needle with one shim, and 2 3/4+- out on mixture.

I would rejet just to get rid of the carb farts caused by running overly lean. In fact, I'd love to know if anyone has done just that without changing anything else?

Thanks to you all for your input.

Are there any exhaust throttles in the stock pipes?
I've just bought this bike and I suspect that something
has been done to the pipes, because the sound is kinda
heavy compared to other H-D's.

I removed one (out of four) of the spark plugs and found that it
was kinda white. The bike also starts "mumbling and coughing" somewhat above
3500 RPM. The overall answer I've received when discussing with
more experienced H-D guys has been : "Install a DynoJet kit and that should
sovle your problem"

Another stupid question that crossed my mind:
How can I check whether I have the stock pipes/mufflers
or not? If I got it right, there are slip-ons which look like the
stock mufflers..

Somewhere on the back of the mufflers there should be a Harley-Davidson imprint with there logo. Just near that there will be a dsclaimer that the pipes meet EPA standards and they should not be tampered with....Or something to that affect...Good luck...

as thumper related most people go for the hole tamale, getting the air cleaner and pipes with the rejet. some people do just the rejet with no other changes but this really gives them nothing. if you're considering rejet, go the extra mile and do it right. you'll love the response and HP change.

My carb farts, which were mostly on blipping the throttle for downshifts and the transition from idle to acceleration when starting from a stop, are almost completely gone now that I richened up the idle mixture with the screw on the bottom of the carb.
You might want to try this first before you even bother with the jets, especially the slow jet. I know on the 2006 XLs, H-D uses the same slow jet (42) for all the 883 AND the 1200 Sporty's, so I gotta believe there's quite a bit of room to play with that idle mixture using the screw...

If there actually is a problem, I think it's related to the main jet because
the symptoms above 3000 RPM.
