Does anyone know what size of shock comes on a 883 XL 2000 model sportster. It has a 11.5 in on it now. When my wife and I are both on it we bottom out on the fender on bumps. Would a longer shock keep that from happening. Thanks for your help.
Go up to a set of 12.5" or 13" 412 Progressives. The 12.5" and longer have a better spring rate. You won't bottom out and will have a much improved ride. If you weigh 200# or more, or do a lot of 2up riding, get the Progressive HD (heavy duty) version of the 412's.
Longer shocks always work better,,With and this Is critical,,The correct spring !
Progressive will work with you on this.
Also always! and when ya go solo the lower frame rails need to be level or better yet a bit lower to the rear.
You may have to add preload to the front.
I did an Its great,,also changed fork Oil and added a "Super Brace",,,they work.
Google It.
I recommend a set of Road King (12") air shocks. Or if you want to be taller, then FL air shocks are 13".
Best IMHO to improve the back end.
As for the front, change out the fork oil to 15-20w, and if still not happy then progressive springs for the front. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...nd-length.html
