I have read in the forums about other 883 owners having the 883 to 1200 conversion done to thier bike. My question is, is this a job that should be done by H-D ?, next, what is the average cost to have this done?, and what parts are changed out when this is done? My ride is an 2002 883 sportster Hugger if this makes any difference. any input would be appreciated. Thank You
Im kind of courious as well. i have searched here on the forums but really didnt find the answer i was looing for like you have said.
im pretty mechanicly inclined but would like to know as well what all it consists of
Go see your local Indy, a good Indy can do that job with his eyes closed. All you really need to do the conversion is a set of reverse dome pistons and a gasket set and 2 new jets for the carb, your stock cylinders can be bored to the correct size, it always works better to use a set of bored well seasoned cylinders over new ones. The price only goes up from there if you want to do some head work.
If the Indy tries selling you ignition kits or over priced carb jetting kits, find a different Indy because that one is just trying to rip you off

+1!!!!! I found my kit at an Indy shop for cheap. It was under $800 installed, (as I had no time to install...Locked in @ my chemical plant because of a union strike), since the Indy already had most of the parts sitting on one of his shelves because someone else backed out. Pistons, bored cylinder, head work, cams and I think he switched the pulley.
anyone do the 1250cc kit from NRHS? The owner told me through email that I would get to around 65 HP on my 97-883 hugger. For 700 bucks thats an expensive 20-25HP..?? Probably a huge difference though?? After head work and cams you can get to 75-80HP.

Or you can spend $160 dollars for a set of pistons and $200 to bore your stock cylinders and still have 65 HP when done. That expensive 1250 job is a lousy 3 CI, that's just another form of rip off.

I wish it was this cheap.. I talked to 2 indy shops last week and they both told me that Parts and bore were going to be in the 550-600 price.. Thats parts and boring only, no install. I plan to do the install myself but nonetheless..
lousy 3 CI ?? So you think the 1250 cylinders are junk parts?
