Another Newby question.... What does a Power Commander or equivalant do, and is it worth the money? As I said in a previous thread, the first owner never dyno'd the Nightster after putting on a Screaming Eagle cone air cleaner and slip ons. Don't know the brand on those. So I am thinking of getting the Commander because I need to do the dyno anyway.
The PCIII is very programmable, mine is set at 10% richer than stock across the board and that is perfect for my completely stock setup. Two things stand out, the throttle is very linear and response is instant, the idle is a a little lumpier, it sounds cammy at idle, I like it. Jamie at Fuel will program it to whater you want or he'll base it on your set up. My oil temp rarely exceeds 200 with the PCIII in place.
i just fiished posting on a forums like this on another board. heres what the PCIII did for me
It fixed all Decell poping
Fixed all the jerkyness in the low RPM range going around town
Extended my RPM window"Made a much smoother Powerband"
a little bit better mileage
And at the drop of a hat i can plug my lap top into it and change a setting. unplug it and be back on the road in 5 min testing it out.. i love it. i would recommend it to anyone. however when ordering it you might was to look into the PC5 i believe it has a better program for tuning timeing/Spark
Tooloe, my experience pretty well lines up with yours except for one item, my mileage went down about 4mpg which is quite acceptible to me. That is exactly what Jamie said it would do.

You can easily dial in the map to get equal to or better than your stock mileage.
And that is precisely where you get your fuel economy, or the lack of it, so I don't see how I could put it back to 51mpg without it running hot again.

Correct. I'm just saying that you may be richer in that area than you need to be. I've played with my PC111 quite a bit and found a happy medium.
