Default CV carb help

I have a 2000 1200 xlc. I recently relined the tank and installed a gravity petcock due to the diaphragm on the stock constantly failing. The bike sat for about three months with a dry tank before i started work on it but ran at that time. The carb was spilling fuel from the overflow which led to the dry tank. I installed a standard rebuild kit and the carb does not overflow anymore. But now it wont start. I checked and double checked the installation and everything is good to go. When i twist the throttle fuel squirts in but less and less each time I twist it. It fires up long enough to burn the fuel in the intake than dies out . Any suggestions?

It sounds like the float bowl isn't refilling properly, either from the lack of fuel flow into the carb or an improperly adjust float level.

I cant find any info on how to adjust the float. do you have any possible links you can share. Google just sends me back to here for best match but there are no instructions on how to adjust the float

The most helpful thing I can suggest, is to get a service manual. It will make working on your bike a lot easier.
