Default Help with my 48!?

So the 48 has been my main mode of transportation for the past week since i wrecked my car a few weekends ago. Everything has been great besides the cold weather and now a strange rattling noise that almost sounds like it is coming from inside the intake. It does this only at 1/8 throttle and higher, under load and in neutral, but not idling. . .

I've checked all of the bolts on the intake, changed the gaskets for my crankcase breather, checked all of the exhaust/muffler bolts and clamps, motor mounts, even the upper rocker covers. Nothing has come loose but the noise is getting louder by the day, not by much but still.

I cant afford to have the sporty down as well since my car is a few weeks away from being back on the road. Anybody have any ideas? Could it be the bolts for the butterfly inside the intake man.?

I've taken the precaution of loading my tool bag with tools "just in case" but would really like to get this sorted out before something happens . .

Thanks for the help fellers!!

Don't count on it being in your intake, rattles can reverberate up and down the motorcycle.....I thought I had a problem in my front exhaust or rocker box, it was actually a broken bolt from my rear pipe rattling on top of the starter at certain RPM's, and the sound was "bouncing" around.......

Just sayin', look over the whole bike, unless you've taken the air cleaner off and have it truly nailed down to the intake.

Ok so i checked as many bolts as i could get to and couldn't find anything that was loose or broken?? I'll have a video up in a little bit. The sound quality isnt great because it was taken with my phone but it picked up the rattling very well.

Here's the video. The sound quality really blows on this one but you can hear the noise and that was all i am after. It makes the most noise when the RPM's are falling. Once it gets close to idle it stops . .

Sounds kinda tinny. Maybe heat sheild? Have you checked all the exhaust bolts? Make sure the baffles are tight. How many miles does it have on it? Sounds external from the video but could it be a lifter?

Damn, sounds tinny for sure. Doesn't sound like an engine problem I've heard but ??? Might wanna check the baffles (assuming theres some in there) and the exhaust clamps. Anything bouncing around inside the side covers etc. If there was a problem inside the engine you'd probably notice it in performance.

There isnt much of a baffle in these pipes but i will check that as well. Checked both the head pipes, o2 sensors, clamps for the mufflers.

Good point pegan, there is no effect in performance so i guess thats a relief. Hopefully its just a loose bolt that has been overlooked.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I agree with both previous posts--sounds like it could be a baffle or clamp.

Absolutely, sounds like baffles to me, too. Without starting the bike, tap each muffler firmly with your toe (one at a time), see if that causes the sound.
