ordered x14ied on wednesday. received vied yesterday. upgrade b/c they were out of x14. how i got them friday, i'll never know w/ t'giving in between. great dealing w/ nightrider.
i've got an 09 xl883c, stock ecm, heavy breather and cycle shack slip ons. because the vied can be adjusted, do you think i need to run it richer than the recommended xl setting of 14 b/c of the hb?
i sent an email to nightrider, but haven't heard back yet.
Michael;
When I cannot deliver products within a day or two, I will substitue VIED's.
I do recommend the 14.0 setting under most circumstances for XL's, but that does not prevent you from playing with the various AFR's. Just do not worry about getting to crazy about fine tuning. There are really two primary settings for you to experiment with, the 14.0 (50%) and 13.8 (100%) settings. At the 13.8 setting, you might get a little better throttle response. But once you add the Fuel Pak, you might end up experimenting with a 25% setting if your gas mileage decreases. While this is unlikely, my experience is that the Sportsters are actually mapped fairly good and really do not need much in the way of additional fuel for heavy/full throttle. The reason we developed the X14iED was because the XiED was actually causing the XL engines too get a little too rich at heavy throttle. My European customers found this out for me (those that could get on the Autobahn). So the change from a 13.8 to 14.0 device was specifically created because of the indirect impact that XiED technology has on open loop ECM operation.
But I do have some USA riders that like the extra fuel of the XIED for bar hopping and jumping from light to light. Europe has a different riding style.
I am planning to order the v14ied cables. I see from some replys that Nightrider is out of them and sending the vied instead. Are they the same (vied vs v14ied), other than 14.0 afr(v14ied) and 13.8 afr(vied)? Do they just plug in the same and no adjustment is required? If not, I hope they are getting some more v14ied in soon.
Also...when I go for emissions test, do I remove the v14ied cable before the test, or will it pass with the cables on? thanks in advance.
They do plug in the same.Adjustment is just turning a tiny screw counter clockwise to achieve a leaner setting or clockwise to achieve a richer setting.There are marks on the dial to be sure both are set at the same enrichment.
