well after seeing talking to everyone and then seeing gothmatel's pipes i am going with the bassani's. i havent gotten any heat wrap yet, still looking where to get that from. sorry for pretty mch copying your pipes to the t, but goth i really like the way they like. and after gettin them on ebay for 150 i thought it was a steal. so they chould be here by weeks end and a sound clip and pics will be soon to follow after that. its going to be a good day.
Ahh geez Boom, I'm flattered! I was inspired by a bike I saw on the Sportster.org site so hey...it's all good. The heat wrap was my only change to the pipes. Glad you were inspired, don't be sorry by any means. Congrats on the new pipes and if you need help with the install just drop me a line.
Ahh, I used screw type hose clamps to secure both ends. I actually sat in the grass in my yard on a nice summer day and wrestled with the pipes to get the wrap nice and tight with 3/4" overlaps. I think it came out fairly well for my first wrap. I would have preferred black wrap though. What they sent me was silver. I am told that after a couple years I will want to re-wrap so I will go with black then. I would think that you could HI-TEMP spray paint the wrap before you wrap it if you wanted black or another color.
Just a note on securing both ends. The instructions I got with the wrap said to use stainless wire to tie both ends. I wasn't really happy with the look but then again if I had some experience with it then it probably would have came out looking better with the stainless tie wire.
When I re-wrap I am going to wrap the pipes all the way down to the 2 1/2" section as my boot has left some really nasty rubber burns near my rear brake controls. No matter how I try I rub up against the pipe there. I was actually thinking about hi-temping the pipes flat black too... Not sure yet. I do like the chrome...
any close ups of how you got yours to stay on. i havent seen any close up enough to see how others have done it. sooo if you have any pics up close up that would be great.
