Default replaced the battery and still wont start

battery was deader then a door nail, couldnt get a single light to turn on so i went out a bought a new battery, put the thing in, and it still wont start. All the lights are turning on, the wind up sound a little weird (i dont know if that is related) but when i go to fire it up, it just clicks. the very first time it sounded like it attempted to turn but now just clicks like the battery is dead! even tho its new do i need to put it on a tender for a while or something? thanks for the help.

P.S. it was a drag specialty battery if that makes any difference

Did you charge the battery before you installed it?

Most new batteries still need to fully charged before use. Did the battery come with an installation sheet?

If the charge is not too low, a Battery Tender or other brand maintainer should bring it up to a full charge. Just plug it in and wait until the lights on the maintainer indicate that it has switched over to maintenance mode.

A 1.25 amp maintainer like the Battery Tender Plus will charge it faster than the Junior model.

if the battery is fully charged and it still wont turn over I would check the relays for corrosion. if they are corroded you will need to replace one or both of them.

TWHILL. If your bike is one of the new "ruibber fuelies", keep the fuse=block greased or you'll have that "click-click" of the solenoid, or NOTHING, over and over and over again. Or worse yet, you'll fry wiring harnesses, stators, and ECM's. I speak from experience, all under warranty, but I'm glad the "tech" told me to keep it greased. The fuse block is in a bad spot, and you don't even have to ride in rain to fry it, just wash it and corrosion sets in and your nightmares begin.

Battery tender? Absolutely. Mines on every minute the bike is parked where I have access to an outlet.

All motorcycles have their quirks, this is a rubber-fuelie quirk. Not worth trashing the bike over, just worth paying attention to. I don't know if H-D has officially admitted that such a quirk exists, but their tech's do, and my problems are gone.

I hope this helps.

This same problem happened to me a few months ago. I replaced my old battery & replaced it w/ a new one. After just one ride my new battery went dead. Found out the connection on the positive cable was a little bit loose.
Make sure your new battery is fully charged. I had the shop charge it for me before they shipped it. Your new battery maybe had a few power left & everytime you crank it the battery will easily drain. Try to charge it completely & most probably will solve your problem. Make sure also that the terminals
+ & - are tightened properly.

HD knows it's a problem, that's why they redesigned it on the 10s.
