Another member just recently posted on the Big Sucker Air Cleaner. I have a more basic question. My right knee hits the stock air cleaner on my Nightster. I have mid controls. I would like to change the air filter to something a bit smaller, or shaped differently (round perhaps?), without giving up performance. Any ideas? Even perhaps something with a different shape with better airflow/performance.
I was at a used bike shop on Sunday, and saw an older Sportster with a chrome, round air filter. I was particularly excited with the way it looked, but I was much more comfortable sitting on the bike without my right knee hitting the filter.
Thank you. Very helpful. Both the Ness cover and the Joker Machine look better than stock.
Can you simply replace the stock filter with the Big Sucker 2 without making any other changes to the bike? Does the Big Sucker 2 increase performance?
Thats because you have forward controls and not mids.

A BS II won't give you more performance than the BS I unless you've done a stage 3 or more to your motor. Your carb is only going to suck so many CFM.
Another question - the Jokermachine in the photo above doesn't have a cover. Is there a problem with water getting into the intake in the rain if the airfilter doesn't have an outside cover?

You just need to get a rain sock. I run my air intake open, and just through the rain sock on when it is raining really heavy
