Default 48 pipe question

Will the Vance & Hines competition series muffler fit the sportster 48 without any mod? Are they pretty straight forward to install? Also I wanted to find out what needs to be done when the pipes and air cleaner are changed from the stock ones. Do I need to get a race tuner? Thanks

Yup that muffler will fit. Someone has a picure of it on their bike in the "Let's see your 48's" thread a few pages back. They aren't hard to install at all if you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty with some tools and can follow directions well. But they are pretty straight forward. Some people don't do anything for fuel management when changing the A/C and pipes. I got a fuel pak since I had bad popping on deceleration. But check out x14ied's from nightrider.com. They are cheaper than a tuner and do basically the same thing minus the marginal performance gains. If you do a search a lot of threads will come up with more info.

This is good info and like was said the x14ied should be fine, but if you want more power out of your set up look into a SERT or PC III or V. if you are just going to do the slip on's then no fueling is needed. The slip on's are easy to install and ever full pipes are not that bad.

Are you interested in selling your stock pipes?
