Yep, just keep in mind your gonna have to use tank prep and sealer. Then have it painted all for .6 gallons more. You'll probably be looking at 20 more miles to a tank and $600 or more out of pocket for everything and hope the paint matches. I really wish Harley could come out with a 4.5 gallon tank for pre-2004 bikes cause I would buy one in a second.
mreed, you have all the fab. skills I one day hope to have. Your type of person is a dying breed in today's computerized and "why make it when I can buy it" society. Keep it strong, and know that there are guys like me who still appreciate hard work and a creative edge out there.
Hi I have a sportster 48 And i buy a tank from ebay 1 month ago i just have to paint it there is look on my sportster (with a photoshop of an idea for the paint)
Look up Kcint on ebay. KC International. They have a link to their website and I got a tank for my 02, I believe it was 3.8gal with a center cap it is kind of like a rounded peanut tank and a bit wider too with a flush pop-up cap. There is a coil and ignition switch relocation kit that you need to get for it too. Good prices, exelent customer service. I dealt with them directly rather than through ebay. They carry a lot of stuff.
I believe J/P cycles also sells a kit for the pre '04 Sportsters that lets you put the flat side tanks off of a big twin on it. I'm not a big fan of that look but some people like it.
