Default Hardtail (back) to Suspension.

Ok, I've been hardtailing it for about 18 months now and I'm pretty much sick of it. It's unsafe and I'm tired of bouncing up and down and landing on my nuts. And I refuse to buy a gay spring seat. I'm looking to buy some rear shocks. I found a really cool set of nitrogen adjustable shocks on ebay a while back but I can't locate them anymore I've been looking online and I'm trying to find a set lower than 11" eye to eye, as my 10" hard tail struts keep me low to the ground because I'm short. I found the burley slammer kit on ebay for $235. They're 10 1/2" rear shocks and lowering fork springs. It advertises fork spring installation in under 30 minutes without front-end dissection which confused me, because I didn't think that was even possible. I'm interested in it but I'm leary of messing with the front end springs. If anyone has any feedback on their upgraded rear shocks I'd really appreciate it. My new year's resolution is to not go back to the urologist. Thanks.

Jack up the front end of the bike to unload the forks, and then remove the nut on the top of each fork tube. The springs and spacers lift right out.

Progressive suspension makes all sorts of shocks, in all sorts of sizes, for about $200.00 a set.
Fork springs are stupid easy, put towel over gas tank, remove handlebars, loosen top pinch bolts, loosen top caps, pull springs out, put new springs/spacers in, replace caps, tighten pinch bolts, replace bars.
I would change the oil while its apart, drain, measure, refill with the same amount, or follow the spring instructions.
Most sportsters ride better with 10 weight fork oil.

Grab yourself a set of 10" Licks shocks for the back. They were a bit stiff at first but I got used to them. They should feel like butter for you since you had truts before. I'm also a short guy and feel like they lower the bike just enough for me.

I saw them yesterday. I just wish they weren't $200. BUTTTTT - they are the shortest shocks I've found.

I was toying around with the idea of trying 9 1/2" shocks off a 2002 INDIAN.

Hmmmmm.......

If you use shocks that short you'll have belt clearance issues with the frame when the suspension squats.

And my seat isn't gay.

#1) 18 months is just the warming up stage of hardtail riding

#2) pants ain't fitting right or you need a Jock-Strap

#3) You must not have ridden any bobber seats then (cause they are like riding on a cloud (pillow).

OK I have to admit, as I have gotten older I like either a stretched out frame (to take up the flex)
or
lowered shocks and a bobber seat (for long runs)

I still like to use the struts when ridding around town

I say Licks 10" is going to be your best bet.
