First post here. I've been thinking about buying a 48 but I really dont like the stock seat. I sat on the Nightster and it was much more comfortable for me. Can I order a 48 with the mid controls and nightster seat, or do I have to buy the bike as is and then modify it?
I am sure you could, money talks at a dealership. I am sure they would charge you a fee for installation and parts! All you can do is ask! Personally I would just buy the bike and ride it 1st to see if you like the forwards and seat. You can always change it later.
You can't just order a bike the way you want it, unfortunately. Even the new "Custom" is pretty limited on what you can do. The bike can be modified by the dealership, but it will cost you.
Just look around here and ebay. Odds are you can find someone with a Nightster seat for sale then sell your 48 seat. Same goes for the controls. Several guys looking to swap mids for forwards so maybe you can work out a trade with someone.
Trust me, and the rest of the gang. Get it home, ride 'er a bit, and if you still don't like forwards and seat swap 'em out. Honestly, in hindsight, I wish I would've waited and done a little more research, but on my test ride I decided standard seat had to go, so I changed it. But mid controls; I'd think long and hard before I switched from forwards to mids, especially if you're anything on the north side of average height. And, if you're going to swap out the seat do yourself a favor and check out some 3rd party seats like Le Pera, Mustang, and others. There is a plethora of aftermarket seats for a good price.
Thanks for the info. I am a little on the short side at 5'6" and I just want to be comfortable on the bike. That's why I was looking at the mid controls. I'm not a speed guy, I just want to cruise back and forth to work on a 45 minute ride each way. The forward controls just seem like they would take me out of my comfort zone, I guess I'll have to take a test ride.
Where in WI are you? I recently bought a Nightster but need something 2-up, and I have a replacement seat on the way. Bike's still in the shop though. If you end up going this route, drop me a PM.
test ride the 48, YOU WILL BUY IT !!!.
after a test ride the 48 sells itself. at 5'6" you will be just fine on the forwards.
may have to change the seat , most do. there's so much choice out there in seats,
dont put a nightster seat on it !!!
test ride the 48, YOU WILL BUY IT !!!.

Not necessarily. I test rode one and didn't like it at all. Not a fan of the big tire and small tank. Rode like a buckboard. But those are my opinions. Just like others who feel it's the be-all-end-all.
To the OP, test ride a few bikes, not just one model. Then buy the one you like best.
