I currently have stock 883 hugger shocks on the rear and the front forks are cut down 1 1/8.
I feel that the rear shocks suck, and I've ridden other sporties to compare. I'm looking to upgrade. What are your feelings on these from a local forum member. I like the low look as well. I will also be riding 2 up at times....
If you want to improve the ride and save your back I don't think you can really consider anything that doesn't increase the ride height and travel in the shock. Longer is the only thing that will make a significant difference. Somebody step in and correct me if your experience is different, but expensive short shocks are still short and can't make that much of a difference. I want the low look too, but I also need to be able to ride comfortably solo and 2-up, so I went with the ohlins and increased the travel over a inch. In hind sight maybe I didn't need to spend so much, but it's a different bike. I should do something about the front end now......
Actually, the stock shocks (especially on Sporties) are terrible! Many people have been able to successfully lower their bike with Progressives and still turn a better ride. However, I wouldn't go any lower than an 11" shock if comfort is a big concern. Especially if you are wanting to carry a passenger every once in a while. The Burlys are good, but they are NOT for people that want to carry passengers. Ever. They market more toward the solo rider crowd.
If you feel you need new shocks and can't wait, go with 11" Progressives.
Go with a slightly used set of Road King or Street Glide air shocks, I got mine for $60.00 and would never go back, the ride is fantastic plus instant air adjustment for two up riding.
The road king shocks seem to be everybody's favorite, but where are people getting them for $50-$60? On CL and ebay the few times I've looked they've been a lot more expensive.

Basically I should be looking for Progressive shocks OR used road king air shocks.
With the air shocks, what else is involved? Is it a pressurized system, requires a tank etc?
What size eye to eye would I need? Standard 11'in like the recommended progressives?
