Default Removing Baffels?

Hello,

I am purchasing this bike below off a friend for 4000 bucks! very excited, especially with the price.

It is an 2006 Sportster 883C frame upgraded by the dealer 2 years ago to a new 1200 motor.(8,000 Miles) I also believe it has aftermarket pipes because of this?

Anyway, I want to turn up the noise a little, wondering if removing the baffels would help any? Do you have any recommendations or suggestions on how to do so?

Thanks!

$400? Only $400? I wouldn't make it loud if I were you. The cops might take interest. And I'm guessing that wouldn't be welcome.

$400? Did you forget to type another zero? That's insane.

Those look like Nightster pipes too me....tappered balony cuts. Anywho...if you look from the end of those pipes you'll see a metal wall...that is a plug that forces the exhaust into the muffler packing. If I were you...first thing I would do is drill a 1/2" hole (drill bit needs to be about 12-14" long) in those. That will help give it some sound. If that isn't enough...drill a 3/4" hole. If you cut out the baffles and don't like it...it is a lot harder to "go back".

But if you want to totally remove the baffle...most people use a hole saw (can't remember what size...1 1/8" or something) and go through the end. Often times you have to remove that muffler body and pound out the guts from the engine side.

Or you can get some Rush slip ons for a reasonable price (1.75 baffles are best for sporties) much louder than the nightster/48 mufflers you have now....and if you want louder than that you can remove the packing from the baffles easily and reinstall the bare baffle. You wont be disappointed.

Awesome, thanks! I'm trying to be cheap about making it sound better. I'm hoping the drill hles in the baffels will help, and not make it sound worse. If I could get apair of pipes for like 150 id just do that, but I don't think I can find them that cheep.

Keep an eye on the classifieds here. I'm sure you could score a set of decent slip-ons for under $150.
