I was sitting is a similar situation a couple of weeks ago with my 2013 Iron 883.
After checking our several websites and youtube links I decided to pull the pipes off and have a go at it.
A: If you pipe says CATALYTIC on the bottom, then you have CATS. This doesn't mean that you should give up, all it means is that the task just got more exciting.
B: I cut out the baffles (as per youtube link in previous post) but still couldn't remove it due to the CATS. Unfortunately I couldn't get any info on how to remove that part as all the links I found on the subject pretty much gave up at that point. Instead I took the pipes to a local company that specializes in bike exhaust, it took him 25 mins to cut the pipes open, pulls the baffles and cats, weld it back up and spray it. This all cost me an equivalent of USD 50.
I've done it on my bike and a mates bike. The mechanic at the stealership cr@pped himself when he started the bike because when he saw the original pipes he was expecting the lawnmower sound.
My reason for going this route was the fact that I bought the bike new, there is no resale value for original pipes. If I'm going to chuck them out after 1,000km then I'm wasting my own cash. Might as well rip them apart and enjoy them for a year or two before going aftermarket. At which point I will probably clean them out and use it as a beer funnel in my biker saloon.
I removed mine from my 2013 FLHTK. Left side a breeze but the left had like a double shield in it which made it harder to pull out. Harley must have built it in reverse. Sounds great but gas mileage is poor and I do feel a slight decrease in torque within the mid range rpm. Guess im going to find slip ons or baffle inserts.
Has anyone removed the baffels from their Screaming Eagle slip ons then removed the packing & re-installed just the metal insert so as to get louder sound but still keep back pressure? I was considering doing this to my 2013 Sportster 72
disregard; I removed the baffels & installed DKCustom TTI's
howdy all,im a lil confused sorry if i sound retrded i just wanted to ask,
removing the baffles for better sound, does this mean u remove the "silencer tube" and packing,or just the remove the packing and then reinstall the silencer?
sorry for the lame question im just a lil confused:ic on_screwy:

I removed everything & installed DK Custom TTI's (in place of tube & packing) installed TTI's with cone facing inward used hole for original baffle/silencer tube
I have SEII slip ons on my 06 883. Pulled the baffles and put the DK Customs TTIs in them. Took out all the high pitched annoying sounds and brought out the lower tones. Sounds great at Idle and even better when ya crack the throttle and at highway speeds. The low end torque is great and it didn't put a dent in my checking account. They are the way to go if you are thinking of opening up the sporty a bit. And there is NO decel popping. None !!! If U call DK, they will tell ya which size and style will work best for your particular bike set up.
