Default Clutch Sticks when cold?

Hello,

So i have started to notice on these cold mornings when I start the bike up, the cluth seems to be sticking.

For example, I cant even push the bike when its in gear yet i am fully pulling the clutch. The only way is to put it in neutral and push. Also, if i start it in gear with the cluth pulled, the bike will still gently start rolling unless Im actually holding the break as well.

It seems to stop after warmed up. Is this common?

First, are we supposed to guess what year and model bike you have, and how many miles are on it?

Your bike has a wet clutch and they only really work if the motor is running. The tranny needs to be in neutral if you're trying to push it with the motor off.

What type of oil do you have in the primary/tranny?

.

This was listed in the Sportster section so I'm assuming ( and you know what that can lead to ) that you're riding a Sporty. Cold weather "sticking" generally is caused by oil that is "too heavy" viscosity wise. When was the last time you changed the primary oil? Do you know what type of oil is in it now? I would guess that it's time for a change. It's been years since I rode a Sportster ( 1976 XLCH ) and I can't remember if there were choices on primary oil viscosity. You also might try one of the synthetics which may help considerably. If this problem show up in warmer conditions you might inspect the clutch hub for wear marks ... the clutch plates can "hang up" on them. Sometimes you can take a file and reduce the grooves on the clutch basket fingers considerably. Good luck!

Sorry about that, its an 06 Sportster 883 frame with a 1200 on it. Has about 8000 miles total

Its a new purchase for me, so I am not sure about when that oil was changed last. Im sure that will be something that I will have to look into. Thanks!

I had the same problem when I bought my bike. I could not get the clutch unstuck, even after adjustment. It would actually stall the engine when I shifted into gear. I drained whatever glue was in there, replaced the clutchpack (it was probably still okay) and filled it with Dexron.

No more clutch issues, shifts like a charm.
