Default Sporty Prototype

Has anyone seen this??

From Raptors and Rockets: (hope the picture uploads..)

We have just attended the first press conference at the 2006 Intermot in Cologne. Harley-Davidson showed a new XR 1200 based on the air-cooled Sportster 1200 engine. New is down draft fuel injection, chassis, sporty pipes and loads of ground clearance. performance are between 85-90bhp and around 75ftlb according to Harley-Davidson. The bike also gets an electronically controlled active air intake system. All in ode to the XR 750 flat tracker. More info later.

There is another post around here about the same thing. I think this is the ugliest bike I've ever seen. If they want to make a crotch rocket, I say go ahead and do it. Same thing with a dirt bike. Just dont try to combine the two with the worst parts of each. ugh..

The guy that designed this POS should be fired and go work for Kia or something.

I totally agree with Arctic Badger. The idiot that came up with that concept has no freaking clue what Harley's are about, although the performance sounds good. It's the styling that I don't like. Entirely too much like a metric sport bike.

i dont know, i'd like to have it to play around on....as you can see its not my style, but as a fun little toy to blow away some crotch rockets it may have a place......

I don't see much point in the 'concept', unless it's aimed at the overseas markets where sales are booming and styling preferences might be different.

If Harley wants to play in the 'crotch rocket league' they are going to need more than 85 to 90 horsepower to keep up with the pack. LoL

Yup, This thing looks WAY too "frankenstein" for me. It looks like the designers tried to make it look like about 3 different bikes. And Oldfenderguy has a good point. You cant take off the rear fender and give it fuel injection and call it a crotch-rocket. I hate to say it, but the "other" guys are 25 years ahead of us on performance.

There are a few posts on that bike. Not sure if its legit. Info said it was not aavailable in US, but rather geared to European market.

Yep, I've seen this in the other post that's in here and it still looks like a hideous piece of crap. It does look like it might be aimed at a Non-American market. Not sure of the validity of this picture but Harley seriously needs to stick to pure American iron and forget about this other crap that they are exploring. I just don't see a huge market for something like this.

I've always followed the mantra "If you’re going to do it, do it right."

This aint it. If they want to compete with crotch rockets, then make one that will compete. Take a Vrod or SE engine and plunk it into a crotch rocket frame. I may not like it, but I'll respect it.

If they wanna make a street/dirt bike, I say go for it! Get some knobby tires, high back fender, a light and powerful engine that likes high rpms, and let her rip. Unfortunately, this aint it either.

If Harley wants to play in the 'crotch rocket league' they are going to need more than 85 to 90 horsepower to keep up with the pack. LoL
You hit the nail on the head.

I think it's fantastic if HD is marketing this overseas. Make what will bring in the euros and ship'em out. Get that loot back in the US and use it to design us a new model HD to "ohhh" and "ahhh" over. Just don't do it half-@$$ed. This bike looks like crap and I doubt will compete in the demographic they're looking for. All I see this doing is tarnishing the HD logo both here and overseas.

No clue what Harleys are about?
The XR1200 Prototype is styled after the legendary XR750,the winning-est bike in the history of motorcycle racing.
The XR750 has been around A LONG time, and is a BIG part of the history and heritage of Harley.
