Hi y'all--
I'm new to the forum and new to HD so I'm likely going to have many questions (I will use the search feature to try to reduce the chance that I'm asking a question that has been answered 10,000 times already).
For my first question I'm trying to figure out what height apes to get for my 07 Nightster. I love the look, but want to maximize comfort as well. Through searching the web for posts and photos I think I'm down to either the HD mini apes (10.25") or the Lick's Super Narrow Glide apes (12"). Biltwell Chumps (8") could be in the mix as well. I'm 5' 8" and definitely don't want to have my hands over my shoulders. Short of finding riders in town who have each of these and seeing how they fit me, what's the best way to make a decision? I'm thinking the easiest way is to visit the local HD dealership and try the mini apes and see if they feel too high or too low. Anyone else been through the same process? Thanks for any input.

HD minis really are 12" I measured. Just tilt em forward to fit you.
They have 2 different "mini apes." One is 12" and the other is 10.25". Look through the catalog and be sure you are getting what you want before you order.
An easy way to get an approximate height on what bars to get is to mock some up with PVC piping. Another option is to sit on your own bike, reach your hands out where you feel comfortable.......now have someone measure from the bend of your stock bars near the risers to your hands.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try the mock up first (get the wife into the garage to help measure) and then maybe head to the dealership. I love the idea of the 12" Lick's apes, but I suspect the HD minis will fit best.
I am 5ft 6" and 125lbs. and have the Licks 10" Z bars on my 48. I love them. A little short at 29" compared to my stock bars that are 32". Took a couple rides to get use to the skinnier bars, but now really love them! Turns quicker. Very comfortable and my arms are at the perfect height.
