Just purchased mesh neon Green/Black Joe Rocket 5.0 Phonix coat for summer protection. Has "armor" and includes "waterproof zip-in lining, but can't find any information on any of the jackets as to how much protection the mesh really provides. Can't tell if I'm just making myself feel better or is there really some protection there, compared to heavy, heavy HD jacket. The Joe Rocket seemed reasonable at $150; please let us know how you like the HD jacket Cheers, Kevin.
Nothing beats Leather, that Is thick leather not the discount stuff.
It stands up to sliding down the road better than anything else.
In most cases It's still useable after a fall.
The HD heavy Mesh Hi-Vis jacket I have should perform well If
I Hit the road. But It's gonna be a one time thing. The Jacket will
most likely be trashed.
If you got any real speed up the best thing you can do Is try and lay flat
to spread the load while you slide.
I'm also counting on the Kevlar In my jeans to help keep some meat on the bone.
I have an Olympia Hi-Viz Green mesh jacket with armor. People have told me that it is really "bright" and that they see me coming from far away. Perfect.
I am thinking about getting a HD high visibility vest - - they come in two colors - - Green or Orange.
What color do you think would be best?
They also have reflective material on them for night ridding, but my interest is for daylight.
Thanks,
Balloo
i can tell you this about the hd vest. they do not breathe, at all. down here in the deep south that matters a lot. maybe not so much in seattle, but i imagine it still gets a little hot there from time to time.
i keep my hd vest for a 'loaner' if someone needs to get on post, but for day to day use, i have an icon. at least it is mesh and allows air flow. even if it is uglier than a mud fence

I have an orange Icon, and I love it simply for the pockets and the ID card slot. It's got plenty of compartments without looking bulky and it breathes really well. My bike says Harley Davidson right on the gas tank, so I don't see the need to buy a vest just because it has the logo on it.
I bought a 8x10 sheet of black reflective material.
It's totally black till light hits it and it's glows white.
I would recommend this for your helmet.
As you can see in the picture it really lights up even with sun light.
At night you can be seen a good distance away.
The company I bought it from has gone under but you can find it from other sites. Just cut it to fit ..

Very bright,,I like It,,
I need to put something on my brain bucket.
This one's still my favorite & they do make it in a "vest" for m/c riding...saw it a few weeks back on rider coming into base. Great AM drive to work laugh...
The Jacket below has elbow and shoulder armor,,
and a slot for back armor.
It's full of holes,,a mesh
Cooler In the HOT summer sun that just a T-shirt,,because It keeps
me In the shade.
Contrasts with black real well XD
The Bar and shield Logo on the back,, Lights up big time when Head lights hit it
so I guess Its ok for night use.
It's the same H-D Road Knight Hi-Vis jacket that I have. It breathes extremely well and also has 2 outside and 3 inside pockets. I love how comfortable it is and it's so bright that it definitely wakes people up. I get comments on how noticeable it makes me.
