Ok, so i put a 2 inch tank lift on my 08 nightster and now my gas light is coming on around 55 miles or so. WTF. How can i fix this or do i just need to take the lift off.

Easy solution: Ignore it and use your odometer.
Alternate solution: Take the front bolt off again and loosen the back bolt. Raise the tank up hinged on the back bolt and lay a pipe or crowbar next to the rear mount and under the tab of the tank. GENTLY push the tank forward to put a slight bend in the tab. This will raise the back end of the tank slightly (if you don't go too far with it) levelling out the back to match the front.
End result: It won't matter eventually because the stupid light is going to start coming on at random times anyway. It's a common problem. But if you do the bend at the rear tab, you'll get back to having more usable fuel in your tank and still be able to go at least a hundred miles or so between fill ups.
thanks a lot man. i have been riding for a while with my fuel light now and no problems but will def be raising the back tonight. it makes sense. thanks again bro.
I keep seeing this mentioned, how the fuel light is "erratic". I don't understand. Mines pretty consistent. When it first comes on, it could be 80 miles, or it could be 95. It goes off once then comes on again. I start looking for a place to fill. Almost every time I takes about 2.1 to 2.2 gallons. That's it. So my mileage varies between 40ish to 45-ish. I've only once ever put in 2.8 gallons. That's when I had it running on fumes before I found a place to fill. Won't ever do that again. I'd hate to have to push this bike anywhere.
But I suspect that the low fuel light is more is more accurate and consistent than not.
Yeah my odometer is consistent too. But I've learned to trust my low fuel light. When it goes on, Get gas dummy!

Well, many people across at least two forums have stated that they have a problem with it. Mine comes on within less than 5 miles after a fill up. Most of the time I just turn the bike off while in mid-ride and restart it while moving and it goes away. I find it more annoying than useful.
