My girlfriend is currently riding a 2009 1200L Sportster. We're looking for a solo seat for her. I've searched and haven't had much luck outside of the dealership styles. I'm interested to see what everyone else is using. Feel free to include photos/brand name/etc. She's not opposed to solo spring seats either.
No pics yet, but I've been using the Mustang Solo Tripper for the past 4000 miles. The seat is great. Did 1400 miles in 2 days with it and it is much much better than the stock. It looks even better too.
I also have a 2009 1200L and I switched out my stock seat. Since I like to take weekend trips, I need a place to secure my duffel bag. I've gone down the solo seat and fender/luggage rack route with my last bike, and it was kind of a pain to secure the bag to the fender rack. So, I have a detachable sissy bar and a passenger seat - that works great for strapping down my duffel bag for those longer trips and touring.
Anyhow, is she riding the 1200L due to needing the seat to be low? Keep in mind that many sets will lift you up and move you back compared to the stock seat. I was going to go with a Mustang seat until I called Mustang and asked if they had any seat that wouldn't significantly change my position relative to the ground and the bars. The told me that all of their seats would lift me up and be wider in the front compared to the stock seat on my 1200L= less foot on the ground. Since I can just barely flat foot it on my bike with the stock seat, a seat that would put me higher was just not a good option, especially when I roll into a gravel packing lot.
HD has a couple of "reach" (and "super reach") seats in both 2-up and solo versions. I bought the two up reach seat ($90 on eBay), and it didn't move me forward or up compared to the stock 1200L seat. I would presume that if you had a custom, it would have been a change of position, but not for the low.
Anyhow, see about going to the dealer and trying the solo reach if GF wants to keep close to the same seat height and position on her 1200L. The reach is more comfortable than the stocker.
