My 74 so far
It's a 67 Honda CB450. It has no idea it's just a 450. It'll tear around town faster than I can hold on.
I really don't look for things for sale. My daughter found that ironhead and a friend of mine showed me that 67 for sale on Chop Cult.
She even lets me put the Electra in her garage with her bikes lol.

The late 70's CB550 had just under the power my 2011 H-D 1200 puts out, and I mean barely under.
I heard they actually programed those little 450's to think they were Triumph 750's, some sort of Japanese magic. lol
Enjoy the ride, and I'll watch your progress on my computer since I won't be able to do much to my bike until I find my girl the house she wants.
Yeah, at least she and I are on the same page in regards to a shop/large garage being a REQUIREMENT.
Three of my all-time top 20 bikes are the Bonnie, the CB550, and the BSA 650 (with the A-65 spitfire lightning clubman being the pinnacle of the 650's). As for the H-D stuff, the early 40's "bobber" flat heads were, and probably still are, my favorite.
I don't know that I'd say the "story" you cooked up was the "greatest" idea, but sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
Lemme try to recap this: Enjoy your chopper project, your "instant gratification" chopper, the Electra, the dream job working with machines, and the cool-*** wife that shares your life and your dreams with you.
Folks like us gotta thank something, or at least be thankful for it.
Finished my tank...then shipped it off.

You can see my hidden mounts in this pic

I can't paint so a friend of mine in Ohio is hooking me up. Actually, if you go out & pick up a magazine called The Horse he's in there with his Ironhead on page 66-68. He's been sending me teaser pics and I cannot wait to get it back! I didn't want any of the welds "finished" and I wanted the tank raw but a little protected. After about 50 txts this is what we've come up with.
It's Intercoat Clear & gold leafed! Next he's pinstriping the leafing and final clear.

Shouldn't be long now!
