Default RE: Cold in Phoenix

I went on a Patriot Guard mission on Monday night. Was escorting a fallen hero from the airport to the funeral home. It was about a 55 mile ride, mostly on the interstate. We left the airport at 10:00 pm. It was 36 deg. Rode at around 70 mph for 50 miles, then was outside for a good bit of time at the funeral home. Went to a Waffle House to get some coffee and warm up, by then the FOG had set in. And I mean some serious FOG. We were close to a river and once we got out of the river area the fog cleared up.

Then we're heading back home, according to the support vehicle the temp was 33, so we were watching for freezing fog on the roads. About 20 miles into the return trip, one of our group had a problem with his coil wire. So there we were, at 2:15 "ish" in the morning, on the side of the interstate working on a bike. After about 10 minutes, we got it going again. Continued the ride home.

Once, back in town, we kind of split up, depending on which direction each of us need to go. I was leading the way through some surface roads, for what should have been a 20 minute 15 mile ride. Then the FOG returned. I forgot, we were going to be riding along the same river, and between 2 lakes. Visibility was about 20 feet, seriously. Fog was freezing on the overpasses, not a fun experience on 2 wheels! It took over an hour to make that last leg of the trip.

When I walked in the house at 3:45 am, it looked like I had been riding in a heavy rainstorm. the water from the fog was DRIPPING from my chaps and leather jacket. The bike was also dripping so much that by the time I got off, helmet, gloves etc off, there was a large puddle of water in the garage. Thankfully, all riders made it home safe.

I think that tested my limits for riding through difficult weather. If it gets any worse than that..............Motel 6!
