you probably are already getting the picture, but we love the weird sounds our bikes make... my +2 rides a honda and i cant stand how quiet it is- that plus cages are always pulling out in front of that bike cause its so quiet
quiet isnt for me. the very unique sounds of the harley is what i crave. and especially love the v&h pipes on my bike- those combined with my big sucker give the bike a sound i cant stop wanting to hear. no way would i listen to any tunes on my bike. the sounds coming out of it are what i want. and i bet i am just like most of the sporty riders on here-
gotta admit that i remember when i changed the pipes and sucker i actually bought baffles to quiet it down. fortunately the good folks on this board talked me down and i rode the bike for a coupla more weeks... thats all it took to fall in love with the sounds of the sporty on steriods!
stick with it and you will get bitten by the bug too!
I rode metrics as well the valvetrane was silent. I think the aluminum rockerbox covers amplifies the sound. The rockers do make alot of noise but trust me it's all good.
Get Pipes!
Just the ride home from the dealer was horrible, I couldnt tell what gear I was in!
I have a set of pipes waiting at the house and installed them while the bike was still hot!
Pipes are 1st "to do" imo!
I run synthetic oil in everything I own, It offers protect from heat that regular oil can only dream about, The bad rap that synthetic oil gets is usually from people that don't understand as much as they should about oil. Synthetic oil has a flash point and shear strength that protects your engine up to 700 degrees. Your bike would have a melt down at that point or would be on fire! It also well flow at zero. No conventional oils protects like synthetic does. In fact Harley sell a synthetic oil. I used to sell custom racing oils and have studied there differences. Look on the internet and you'll see it's all true.
About the noise I have a mechanic look at it to make sure you valve train is adjusted right. Harley had some trouble with lifter bleed down on newer bikes they used a cheaper "c" lifter instead of a "B". You can't hardly find the B's but after market ones are available, like Jim's.

Someone once had a pic on here that showed a sportster engine with a couple singer sewing machines overlaid. I laughed my *** off when I first saw that pic.
