you could always have bars made for you. I went thru brcustombars.com great guy i might ad. Getting the bars on now and will have pics up in several days.
I agree with you, I have had Apes on 2 different bikes and can't say I liked either set up. I found that they make my back burn between the shoulder blades and no amount of riding would help. I sold the one bike and I switched back to short bars on the other. I also found that I like to beat my bike and the short bars are a lot easier to hang onto and corner better, but that's just MHO.
I don't like the idea of making myself into a parachute while riding. I catch enough air with longhorn style bar as it is. Motorcross bars ie Longhorns are designed for control, not apes. Although i find them to be cool looking i would never consider buying them for riding.

As i said earlier, control has improved with the apes for me. Just the burn feeling in my muscles
Got my 14" burly's narrow apes. Will mount them next week. Hopefully everything works out good for me. Heard alot of negative comments about apes from my friends who had them before.

And i heard a lot of good things about apes before i put mine. If it is not the perfect fit at first, it means it just need some tweaking. I think that my stock 2-up seat is the problem in my case. I have long arms and that seat keeps me quite close the bars. I'm looking at getting another seat now.
great thread, thanks Voony!!! Tekdiver, thanks for confirming what I thought may be happening on the handling issues, I figured it would change the dynamics a bit.
oh yeah, I'm a short guy, don't see apes in my future unless I wanna do pull ups, lol
